GB/Spain: Spanish Armada 400th Anniversary 1588-1988 silver medal. Royal Mint Centenary medal series in original box with leaflet 63mm. 154g (5 oz sterling 0.925 silver). The design reproduces a famous medal issued in Holland shortly after the Armada, showing a group of tall-masted sailing ships locked in combat in the English Channel. The legend FLAVIT ET DISSIPATI SUNT (He Blew and They were Scattered) refers to the epic storm which dispersed the Spanish vessels and gave victory by divine intervention to the English. The name of Jehovah in Hebrew is at the top. Edition of 2500, third in the Royal Mint Centenary Series. We suspect many have been melted making this medal scarce. Super patina.
