Diver by John Mills (1933-2023) PPRBS, ARCA, standing bronze medal maquette sculpture.
This medal of a tumbling diver featured on the front cover of the guide to the Free Range exhibition, held in our old gallery in Lambs Conduit Street, London, from 30 May to 7 July 2000. The idea of the exhibition hatched between Frances Simmons and John Mills was to bring sculptors who are normally commissioned for large public sculptures to try their hand at the medal. Medal comes with a copy of the exhibition brochure.
He loved diving and the diver was a constant theme in his work. This maquette was proposed for a public sculpture in Essex which unfortunately was never made. John Mills PPRBS ARCA FRSA: his most famous public works are the Women of World War II in Whitehall, London and the National Firefighters Memorial near St. Paul’s Cathedral, London.
