Latin America Wars of Independence from Spain: Ecuador Commemorative Medal in bronze for the Centenary of the Battle of Pichincha (Quito) 24 Mayo 1822 1922. Knight on horseback. Winged personification of the Republic carrying flaming torch and wearing a Phrygian cap. Men striding into battle, ancient style, naked. Battle held on the slopes of the volcano Cerro Pichincha, 3500m above sea level between the rebel troops and the Spanish royalists. The rebels were able to liberate Quito the very next day. Bronze 78mm. heavy. Design by Casadio. Whole in edge top and bottom in order to display on swivel base (not included).
