Satirical jeton – Belgium, Brussels 1896 – man in moon – Jeton Cumontespan

It would seem that this token was issued to make fun of Mr. Georges CUMONT, then director of the Revue Belge de Numismatique, in criticism of an erroneous article he had written on a token supposedly struck for the birth of the son of Madame de MONTESPANT. Following this satire, he definitively resigned from his function as director.
