Allemand-Lavigerie was born in Les Landes in 1825 and died in Algeria in 1892. A missionary priest in North Africa he campaigned against slavery. Apostolic Nuncio to Sudan and the Sahara. This medal created in the same year as the Convention of Brussels was signed.
