Monument aux Enfants de Nice Morts pour la France 1928 bronze medal by Andre Lavrillier (1885-1958). The medal references the memorial by Alfred-Auguste Janniot (1889-1969) in Nice for those inhabitants who died for France. Lavrillier on the reverse depicts the monument in its entirety, set into the rock. He then takes an element from Janniot’s bas reliefs to make the obverse, the head of a warrior brandishing a broad sword, with a snarling lion behind. Three horses are set into the young warrior’s hair. Classic Art Deco. Superb. Triangular mark on edge. Bronze 72mm.
