France. Exposition Nationale Coloniale Rouen Normandy 1896 by Oscar Roty silvered bronze medal.
Roty made a number of medals on the theme of Normania Nutrix (Normandy Nourishes). Â This example is awarded to F Reichmann, collaborateur.
There was a vast number of people involved in this, the first Colonial as well as National Exhibition in Normandy.
On one side we have a view of the city of Rouen including the cathedral and the river. On the other a shepherdess sits knitting while cattle graze and a ploughman works in the distance. Â The whole design celebrates local agriculture in a Romantic fashion.
Silvered bronze 68mm.
