Italy Battle of Legnano 1176 monument erected 1900 silver medal.

First battle Frederick Barbarossa versus the Lombards 20 maggio 1176 – view of the ox drawn carts carrying German Emperor Barbarossa.  He was defeated:  the feudal army overturned by the urban troops of the Lombardy League.

On 20 June 1900 a monument to the battle, depicting a  knight in armour, was inaugurated in Legnano.  This medal was made to commemorate the event.

Made by Johnson, monogram CA, silver medal (not hallmarked) 56mm. 84.34g. Monument in Legnano by Enrico Butti.
