England: Pewter medal to commemorate the Majority of William Wiley 1872 Birmingham.
Obverse: portrait of bearded William Wiley. Reverse text: To commemorate the majority of William, only son of W E Wiley Albert Works Graham Street Birmingham and Birches Green Erdington Decr. 31st 1872.
We can’t find a reference in the medal books for this. It was not uncommon for people to strike personal medals commemorating a birth or in this case a son reaching his majority, adulthood.
Wiley were pen case manufacturers in the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham while young William went into the family business and developed cycling accessories.
