MB109365 France, Large cast bronze medal Hommage a Urs Graaf engraver metalworker and soldier by Dropsy 1967.  Issued by the Monnaie de Paris  CFO 103 (15e selection), limited edition no. 4/200. 131mm. approx.

Great portrait of Urs Graff ‘The Innocent Lamb”  Daz Tultig schaff.   Urs Graaf was a Swiss Renaissance goldsmith and metalworker, famous for making blades, and hence the legend on the reverse Graveur et Lansquenet.  Reverse shows the Devil with a maiden whose sword is engraved Al mein Gelt verspelt (All my money spent) – a reference to a ribald social life but an abuser too.  He is also celebrated for his woodcuts and the portrait side shows both his logo and the tools of this trades.  Later in life he became a soldier of fortune.
