MB109361 France Louis XIV Sun King portrait large splendid gilt bronze medal plaque after Michel Molart, 1976
Issued by the Monnaie de Paris 1976 no. 44/190, 205x145mm. with loop on back for suspension.
The king wears an astonishing helmet, loaded with medallions and topped with Apollo the sun god in his chariot. Â A captive is under the chariot’s wheel, symbolising the king’s victories against the Dutch.
There’s a bronze relief in the Met in NY and an ivory in the V&A, dated to about 1683. Â This piece is reinterpreted by the Monniae for collectors in 20th century.
Condition, as photo, no wear hardly. Super bling!
