MB109354 France Lacordaire famous French  preacher/ priest by Maurice Debus (1903-1963) large cast bronze issued 1970.  Debus made several religious medals and bas reliefs for the Monnaie.  Pupil of Niclausse and Bouchard, he used the technique of engraving directly into the plaster or die, producing quite angular strokes.
Posthumous work taken from plaster found in the artist’s studio after his death. Â Monnaie de Paris cast bronze limited edition no.4/100 Â 117mm. Â Uniface.
Jean-Baptiste Henri Dominique Lacordaire OP, 1802-61, re-established the Dominican order in post-revolutionary France. Â He was a priest, theologian and a political activist, a liberal Catholic for the times interested in religious education and the separation of state and church.
