MB109353 France Monnaie de Paris limited edition no. 122/300.  A bronze medal of the French Expressionist artist and painter Bernard Buffet (1928-1999) by Kischka 1956.  68mm.

Kischka has used the stiff angularity of Buffet’s work to create the artist’s portrait.  The medal was done at the height of Buffet’s fame – his output was prolific but he fell out of fashion.

reverse: Cow’s head with a knife stuck in it on a table with bottle and glass, a chair behind,  this inspired by one of Buffet’s paintings.
