GB Joseph Chamberlain Visit to South Africa 1903 silvered bronze medal 50mm. Facing portrait head. Reverse angel of peace, his boar and text: I go to S. Africa with the most earnest desire to bring together the people into one great African nation under the British flag. His visit comes after the Boer Wars. Design by J. Fray. BHM 3888, with card from Chamberlain dated July 8th 1906, his birthday, returning his grateful thanks for congratulation and good wishes.  Note:  photo has a red tinge courtesy of winter light!  It’s silver as reverse and toned.
