Olhao by Stuart Frost for BAMS made of burnt cork, 105mm. fabricated by the artist. Edition: 14, The Medal no. 47. Named after a small fishing port and tourist town on the Algarve in southern Portugal. Using cork the artist references an old industry which produced the corks for the wine trade. Now those are being replaced by screw tops making the cork trees economically redundant but an integral part of the Nature Park of Ria Formosa which was instituted in 1987.
