Two commemorative medals of the ‘Hollandia’ Dutch East Indiaman vessel, one in silver from the wreck and one in bronze The ship was wrecked off the Isles of Scilly in 1743.

The silver medal is made from coins retrieved from the wreck and uses the design of the Spanish American 8 reales Pillar dollar, the most frequently found coin on the wreck.  At the time it was a newly designed coin, only a few years in circulation.  It features the Pillars of Hercules (signifying the entrance to new worlds and exploration) and two globes, crowned.

The design by English medallist Ron Dutton shows the Hollandia in full sale on the open sea, with the VOC monogram of the Dutch East India Company.  She was on her way to Batavia (now Indonesia) when she was caught in a storm and foundered off the coast of Cornwall in 1743.

We’re selling the silver version with a bronze version, struck from the same dies.  Originally commissioned and made in the 1980’s and distributed by ourselves at that time, we have a few for sale.
