France, Ministere de la Guerre (War Dept) souvenir bronze medal from General Maurin to General Laure 1934-35.

Bronze 64mm. condition gVF with some spotting.

This medal with a war-like Valkyrie brandishing a broadsword was designed by Morlon earlier in the century (WW1 period) but here is personalised with lettering on the edge:

SOUVENIR DU GENERAL MAURIN AU GENERAL LAURE 9 NOVEMBRE 1934-8 MAI 1935

During this period General Laure was Chief of the Military Cabinet, Ministry of War.

General Emil Laure was in charge of the 9th Corps of the Army, then the 8th at the outbreak of WW2 and the fall of France.  After capture by the Germans, he worked with Petain as Secretary of State during the Occupation and Vichy government.
