BAMS medal of Bernini getting the message from the Angel of the Baroque by cartoonist Ronald Searle –  trial lead splashes RD232.  Portrait of Bernini facing, head only, with putto whispering in his ear.  On the reverse the angel pulls back the curtain on the Baroque period.

Type base metal, very heavy. 78mm. each approximately. Weight of two pieces together: 700g..  Reference:  BAMS issue no. 35, 1984, edition 100 pieces. see The Medal no.8 (1986)  Small edition of only 40 pieces.

No idea why Ron Dutton should have these as he wasn’t involved in the practicalities of striking of the medal by the Birmingham Mint.  However he was the British Art Medal Society secretary in charge of the production of the medals issued by the society and may have been sent them as part of the quality control process.

Note:  if sending abroad, may have to use sea/economy mail because of the material – usually lead means no-fly for airlines.
