Of medals, copies and reproductions
Last auction? Never say never so Simmons Gallery are doing an medal auction on July 22 2025 – “just to tidy up the stock a bit” as Howard and Frances enter retirement. We’ve taken things out of the ‘reserve stock’ which is code for things we really like and ‘forgot’ to offer or take to fairs in the past. All dealers do it! All lots are illustrated online at simmonsgallery.co.uk
One of the series we found while ‘tidying up’ was the issue from the Monnaie de Paris of medallic copies of ancient Greek and Roman coins, and also French coins. They’re more like medals, cast in copper and silver but faithful to the original in design. Not fakes (we really don’t like fakes). These can’t be confused with the real coins as they’re enormous. Also you’d have to have deep pockets or rob a museum to get your hands on the originals! The prices are ‘come and get me’ starting from £15. For the few that are in silver the start price is the metal value. These beautifully made super-sized coin types just need new homes.
