Librarian and writer, he wrote a study on Guy de Maupassant and was Inspector General of Libraries in France (1902-35) and a member of the Academie Goncourt. Vernon shows Neveux as an old man shortly before his death. On the reverse within a square is a Latin text which translates: People live in books, superstitions have impressed themselves on their works, they speak and are silent, they are heard and are silent, they speak while they are read, and are silent when they respond.
