GB Rare silver commemorative medal 250th anniversary British Museum by John Maine 2003. A very limited edition in silver was made of this medal (10 only). Maine won a competition for the design of the medal. It combines circle square and triangle shapes, referring to all the disparate forms of objects in the museum from its inception in 1753 and allowing the beholder of the medal to read it as they will. At first glance it refers to a Chinese cash coin or a jade bi (personal opinion here!). On the other side, a trapezium or box shape, the museum as container of treasures 131g. sterling silver hallmarked GS Royal Mint issue of only 10 pieces, original box. 63mm.
