Pisanello Renaissance artist by Avril Vaughan (1937-2006) cast bronze medal 1990. Part of her Sculptors series and one of the earliest ones. Medallist, jeweller and sculptor, Avril designed medals for BAMS but also produced commissions and work simply for the pleasure of doing so. Pisanello (1394?-1455), often referred to as the Father of the modern art medal. Vaughan takes elements of his work e.g. horses, lion, ship and swan, imagining him designing his many medals. AE 68mm.
