GB/France Bronze medal portrait of Jules Verne given to Captain George M Tullis R.N. of HMS Phoebe 17 December 1979. The medal by R Baron was originally made for 150th anniversary of Jules Verne’s birth in Nantes 1828-1978. The Phoebe was a frigate of the Leander class in the Royal Navy. Tullis was its commander from 1978-1980 while the vessel was part of the Standing Naval Force Atlantic (NATO). We haven’t found out the occasion for the presentation of this medal, which lists Verne’s interests as science, geography, fiction. Bronze 68mm. EF as made, case available.
