France, Large silver art medal Les Amours de Jupiter 3 – Danae (Jupiter’s Lovers – Danae) by Robert Couturier 1972. Danae, in Greek mythology, was a princess and the mother of the hero Perseus by Zeus. The artist shows her imprisoned in a brass tower by her father as the oracle of Delphi had prophesied that her father would be killed by his grandson.However she is consoled by Jupiter in the form of golden tears, becoming pregnant with Perseus. Subsequently as the reverse shows, Danae is cast into the sea with the baby Perseus not yet weaned. She floats, the baby lives and eventually kills his grandfather, the king of Argos.
